How I Write Your Copy

  1. You review my samples
  2. Over the phone or online, you tell me about your business challenge, needs, and ask me to bid on your project(s).
  3. I prepare a formal Letter of Agreement. It outlines my understanding of the project, its scope, describes what I will do for you, details the copy I’ll write, when I will deliver the copy, and clearly listing my fee, and terms.
  4. You approve and sign the Letter of Agreement, and send it, with your purchase order, back to my desk with your retainer (usually 50% of the project fee).
  5. You supply all of the background information I need, especially your marketing plan, buyer journey, target audience information, product literature, manuals, and market research
  6. Upon receiving your 50% retainer, we get on the phone. I ask you lots of questions about your company, your offerings, competitors, marketing challenges, your unique selling proposition, clients, prospects, offer, buyer journey, call to action, and more.
  7. You supply me background information
  8. We agree on when the copy outline deadline (skipped if really short copy)
  9. I review past and current marketing collateral or any other assets your company has produced and discuss their results (or lack of them) with you.
  10. I review all of your offering’s literature you supply
  11. I read the articles you supply about your company you supply
  12. I study your website
  13. I examine your competitors’ websites
  14. I send you an outline of your copy for you to approve on the agreed time (skipped if really short copy)
  15. I send you my first draft on the agreed time
  16. You send the copy back to me with your comments, 2 revisions max, for up to 30 days
  17. You approve and sign off on the final draft
  18. I send you the final draft.
  19. I follow up by phone to make sure you are satisfied.
  20. You get the results you want
  21. You celebrate.
  22. I send you my final invoice.
  23. You pay.
  24. I celebrate with In N Out burger. And then I appease my avian overlords with more millet snacks, and hang on to my liver for another month.
